Toyota Recalled 3.4 Million Vehicles Worldwide Due To Airbag Failure
Toyota, the Japanese carmaker, said that 3.4 million vehicles will be recalled worldwide due to electronic failures, which may lead to incorrect configuration of airbags in accidents.
The recall includes 2.9 million U.S. vehicles, including the following Toyota models:
2011-2019 Carola
2011-2013 Matrix
Avalon, 2012-2018
2013-2018 Avalon Hybrid
The vehicle may have electronic control devices, which lack adequate protection against the electrical noise that may be generated in the collision, so the airbag may not be fully deployed or deployed. In addition, the safety belt pretensioner shall be prevented from starting, and the pretensioner shall pull the safety belt in case of collision.
In April, the U.S. Department of Road Traffic Safety(NHTSA) expanded its investigation on potential defects of 12.3 million airbags. These include several automakers, including Toyota and the vehicles they are recalling.
NHTSA has identified two frontal conflicts in April, both involving the new Corolla model. One of the crashes was fatal” The electric stress is too great.
They also said that the airbags investigated from 2010 to 2019 were installed in more than 12 million vehicles and sold by the next company.

These vehicles fitted with airbag controls were originally manufactured by TRW Automotive Holdings and are now owned by Cheaveridrich Shaffin.
NHTSA said that a total of 8 deaths may be related to the problem.
Hyundai Motor, Kia Motor and Fiat Chrysler previously recalled more than 2.5 million vehicles equipped with TRW airbag control devices, because it is suspected that they may not be launched due to traffic accidents.
Fiat Chrysler said that in 2016, it recalled 2 million vehicles without air bags. It was reported that three people were killed and five were injured, which may be related to the defect.
Out of the same concern, Hyundai Kia Motor recalled more than 1 million vehicles in 2018. It is reported that 4 people were killed and 6 injured in North America.
If necessary, Toyota dealers will install a noise filter between the airbag control module and the harness. They also declined to say how many deaths or injuries were related to the problem.
Toyota plans to notify car owners of the recall by mid March this year. The number of affected vehicles in Singapore is also unknown.
